The Dark Knight opening narrative

In the beginning of this film there is a bank robbery. To start there are five robbers and in the end there is only one remaining as they all kill each other once they've done their job. One person who is working in the bank fights back but is then shot down by one of the robbers. All of the hostages are given grenades so they don't go and alert the police so the bank heist is very well thought out.

When we watch this we get certain enigma codes such as why are they killing each other? Why are they wearing clown masks? Who's the Joker? Who does the bank belong to? Who is the guy who fought back? Who is under the masks?

The robbers and the man who fights back are the main characters in the beginning of the film as they have the most camera time and the most dialogue. The robbers represented the threat and the man fighting back represented courage. The hostages represented the fear that the robbers had created.

The film is set in a Large city in the US we can tell this from the large skyscrapers and you can tell from the dollars that they are stealing. It is in a bank that is owned by a mob which is very dangerous. The robbers have a boss called the Joker who is explained to us through the robbers discussing him and this makes the audience think about who he is.

The themes at the beginning of this film is fear which is represented to us through the masks and the hostages showing they are scared. Another main theme is courage which is shown to us by the man who fights back with his shotgun. Murder is a big theme as the robbers kill one another for a greater amount of money after the job which leads onto another theme which is greed.
