Up Opening Analysis

The begging of the movie Up tells us the story of Carl's life with his wife Ellie. The story of their life together has moments of tragedy and moments of happiness. The main theme at the beginning of this film is love but also includes other themes such as loss and determination. The story is told to us using music and a compilation of clips. The music changes from being fast and cheerful to being slow and sad. An interesting point is that there is no dialogue in these clips but instead illustrated to us using key times in Carl and Ellie's lives. Straight away we meet one of the main characters and learn about his interest in going on an adventure.
